D-backs Draft Info Day 1

Good Morning everyone! Today is one of my favorite days of the year, the MLB Rule 4 Draft A.K.A. the First year Player Draft. While the name may be misleading, a wide array of players are available in the MLB Draft.  To be eligible for this type of draft, You must be a graduating senior at your domestic high school. This translates to anybody in the USA, including Puerto Rico and Canada.  There is not a set age to be available to the draft and, in a lot of cases the players can be as young as 17. In addition, players from college can be drafted so long as they are in their junior or senior year. Some prospects  will leave college early to attend a junior college.  Prospects only need to attend junior college for one year to be eligible to be drafted.  Players can be drafted many times creating a unique situation where players have leverage and control of who they potentially will play for. The draft will be on the MLB Network at 6 PM EST. In addition, there will be a number of people

D-Backs Insturctional League 2014

RHP Touki Toussaint (Photo: Jake Rashkow) Arizona   D-Backs Insturctional League 2014 The Arizona Diamondbacks 2014 season may be coming to a close but, there are still many things to look forward to! The Arizona Instructional league or Instrux, is currently underway at all of the Player Development Facilities in their respective suburbs of Phoenix. The games are typically played around 12:30 PM during the week, and at 10 AM on Saturday. None of the teams play on Sunday, and some teams take a day off for intra-squad matchups.  The Instructional League is a chance for players to work on specific points of emphasis, and their scheduled day even includes an "in-class" portion.  The rosters for this league are comprised of players from all levels of the organization. Most of the players are recent draft picks, and lower level farm players, but every once in a while a player who missed AB's/IP's during the year due to injury will see some time in the AZIL. 3rd Rounder Matt Railey to Missoula Osprey

Matt Railey assigned to the Pioneer League, Missoula Osprey  Per a conversation, that I had with recent signing Matt Railey, he will be joining the Missoula Osprey for the 2014 season. Missoula plays in the Pioneer league where they are an affiliate for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Railey will likely start in the outfield on opening day which is Monday, June 16th. Railey was considered to be the 64th overall prospect in the 2014 Draft, so getting him in the 3rd round (84th pick) was really a steal. Matt attended North Florida Christian High School and was committed to Florida State University.    @Ja_kow yes to missoula. and thanks. — Matthew G. Railey (@MattRAILEY) June 13, 2014

Marcus Wilson signs with D-backs

The D-backs signed one of the more elusive picks that they selected in the 2014 MLB draft.  He was considered the # 39th Overall Prospect.  He signed slightly above slot value, which means that the D-backs were a little worried about him going to college but, they were able to offer enough where that was not a concern. Sources: #DBacks in agreement with Comp B pick Marcus Wilson (69th overall). He gets $1M bonus, more than slot value ($821.1K). — Chris Cotillo (@ChrisCotillo) June 10, 2014

2014 Arizona D-backs Draft Review

2014 Arizona D-backs Draft Review Hey everybody, I know it has been a while but, I figure now is a great time to start blogging about what I know best. Below you will find the draft order for the 2014 Draft, the Round is listed first followed by the Overall Pick number.  I will update this list on a daily basis with signing bonuses, and eventually where the players are being assigned. If you missed it the 2014 first year player draft for the MLB was June 5-7. The D-backs had the 16th overall pick, and 5 picks in the top 100. If you are not familiar with the draft or how it works, the players out of high school will be the most elusive to sign, while college juniors are next most difficult, while college seniors are considered the least difficult to sign. The logic here is that high schoolers and College Juniors can refuse to sign and either go to college, or return to their college to refine their game.  Each team is given a "bonus pool" to use to sign draft picks tha
